Question assistance gents please

hi guys,
i'm a bit of a novice from the midlands, england and i need advice on strings....
i've got a 3/4 beat up stentor with steels on but i've been gigging with a rockabilly trio for about a month pretty regular and they're eating the finger board.
i need a set that that sound like steels but play like guts!
a friend in oz suggested innovation rockabillys but surely they're gonna be just as flubby as guts?
is there anything?
help me guys!!!!!!!!!!

try the Innovation Ultra Blacks they're higher tension and really easy on the fingers. (Similar tension to a lot of medium steel sets)

What kind of steels are you playing?

Eating the fingerboard?
Its a black-stained white wood one?

What strings do you have on ?
(please provide the silk colors at both ends if you don't know)

+1 on the Ultra Blacks. The regular Rockabilly set is easier on the hands and isn't too floppy either.

And they are made in England!

My experience is that only gut plays like gut , only gut sounds and feels like gut , and in turn steel sounds like steel , maybe youd like Jargar Dolce , a very dark sounding steel ,
Or Steel E&A with Roto D G , spend some money its the only way ,good luck.

I can't but recommend you get a real fingerboard.
Even rosewood is nice.

As for you strings, black threads at both end, on all four strings?

They may be Thomastik Precision, but if they came stock on the bass, they're probably extra-cheap no-names.

Velvet Blues may be something worth investigating...

As far as I'm concerned, Thomastik Precisions ARE extra-cheap no-names...
