I beg to differ on this statement. (in my own experience of course)
The Corellis are probably the quietest string I tried. Low volume, nothing in comparison to the Spiros!
But of course based on EUB trial only.
On a good AUB, they may sound louder. (basses react differently, particularly to the tension load)

Interesting thread.

I just took a set of Corelli 370TX off my old carved top and put the Pirastro Jazzers back on. Trying to get more sustain for a folk/acoustic combo gig with a lot of slow/mid tempo pieces (the sustain on the E string kills em).

I really like the Corelli's for arco, and agree that they are really well balanced across the strings in the highest registers (Laterly I've been doing 4th position duets with my 9 year old who is doing the Suzuki thing on cello!)

The Corellis just don't excite me for pizz. When I put the year old Jazzers back on I got the pizz I was looking for, bright agressive, massive sustain. But man what a difference bowing. Super duper scratchy, even with my fancy new (All Hail) Bob G bow. ALmost intolerable.

Very curious about the Superflexibles .. keep hearing that they have the sustain of the Spiros but without the scratchiness. How do they compare to the Weich in tension?

Might just throw in the towel and the Helicore Hybrids back on.. They seemed to work fairly well on this bass a couple of years ago ... course I didn't play nearly as many Suzuki tunes in 4th position back then!
