Between Superflexible and Spirocores?

I recently swapped out the dead E string from my Superflexible set for a spiro E string, as I was looking for something a bit brighter with more sustain. The spiro was definitely bright with more sustain, but I think I want to find a set of strings that is between the Superflexibles and Spiros in sound and feel.

The Spiros are a bit too bright for my taste, while I prefer that over the Superflexibles being a bit too dead and lacking sustain. The superflexibles might be a bit too stiff for my bass. My bass seems to open up and sound a lot fuller when it is tuned flat - when the strings feel about as stiff as spiro mittels. At this tension, my bass lacks the punchy attack when the SFs are tuned to pitch.

I think I'm looking for the equivalent of a slightly lighter gauge SF or a slightly mellower Spiro. Anyone have any leads?

Spiros change quite a bit after you burn them in awhile. You may want to give that E some time to break in and darken up. It sits between a new spiro and a broken in SF when they are broken in.

The strings Francois mentioned, Jazzers, are between Weichs and Mittels.

Maybe Spiro Weichs or Pirastro FCS. I like Spiro Mittel E and FCS A, D & G. A little less tension on the left hand and a lot more air in the sound.

Just got back from my first rehearsal with the Spiro E. It sounded a lot fuller and clearer than the superflexible E, but I can't get a punchy attack out of the string for when I'm trying to play a driving bass line. I'm going to try bumping up the action again to see if that helps.

I might just need to use fresh superflexible Es all the time, but I'm not sure if I can make that kind of investment.

a) Give it another week
b) Jazzers
c) yeah, what someone said about mixing in some Flat Chromesteels strategically. The E is no good, but you might like the rest of the set. Won't last nearly as long as spirocores or jazzers, though.
