Bowing Helicore Pizz mediums - a question

Hey guys,

I'm a relative newbie to the upright - been playing seriously about a year, with 12 years of electric experience. When I bought my Christopher (2001, fully carved 3/4 size) from David Gage, the guys there put Helicore pizz medium strings on it, since I told them I was doing mostly jazz. This is still true, but I'm bowing enough now (or learning to, anyway - a German bow BTW) that I'm starting to wonder if I'm making my life harder than it needs to be.

My question: if I switch to Hybrids, will there be a SIGNIFICANT change in bowing ease? What about Orchestral strings? What about a lighter gauge?

Secondly, does anyone have any recommendations as to good bowing/pizz strings? Help!

Thanks guys,

Phil

If you dont mind to change gauges...

... the helicore pizz light are worth a try. They are cheaper than most quality strings ($99 at gollihurs) and they bow REALLY good. In fact, I experienced them to be better than the hybrids as a hybrid string. The hybrid never really cut it for me, on the pizz side there was just too little growl and they semed a bit muffled. On the arco side, they didnīt flash for me either. The Pizz light has it basically all, IMHO: Lotsa growl, great bowing (almost celloish if you practice intensely enough), and they last ok long (for me, a year, after that, they die quite fast).

Hope that helps
