Broke my first DB string

The title says it all It had to happen eventually I suppose and it was a second hand string. I think I let it get too close to the side of the pegbox on the final turn so I can't complain. I'll just put it down to experience. It was a Dominant E and it broke between the end of the silk and the nut.

I really like these strings on my EUB. Best sound yet, arco included. They are less twangy and nasal than the Jazzer set they replaced. They are a little too tight for my liking though, so I'll probably be asking Father Christmas for a solo set .

Dominants are quite prone to breakage.
Did you try Evah Pirazzis?
Evahs (and Obligatos) don't have this drawback.

Now you mention it, I've had a couple of Dominant stings break on my violin and that was just being stored on the wall (I hardly ever play it. I can't stand listening to myself with the thing so close to my ear ). Shame 'cos the bass strings do sound nice on my EUB.

I've never tried EPs. I have got Obligatos on my Roumania (sic.) carved bass and I like the sound of those very much, esp. arco.

Hi Ricobasso ,
the things are two :
also i broke an E spiricore orchestra string because a little bit up of the nut my liuther don't work on it in the right way !!! (change liuther see at bob gholiur's site )

you don't know to put a bass string in tune when it is new you need to be very patient i made this operation in a week to tune the strings on my bass a little bit more day by day .

I saw the title of this thread and wondered if it was a Dominant string. What else would it be? Check out this thread.
