Broken string

Today my A string broke at the bridge... only had them on for 2-3 months now. Was expecting them to last twice as long.... They were Corelli 370 TX (heavy) gauge. It didn't really full out break, it looks like the core is still in tact but the winding and core is super stretched out, looks like a slinky, for about 2 inches. It happened in a split second.

At least I have an excuse to buy a new set...

I thought this only really happened with gut/synthetic? What gives? and what can I do to prevent it?

Have a pro DB luthier check your string slots at nut and bridge for size and angle. It sounds like the winding was either pulled back by a sharp edge on the back of the slot or pinched by a tight one.

Jake buddy means nut and bridge. Never saw a saddle with a slot, let alone for the A string...
