Bulky string winding?

Today I received a combo-set of eagerly anticipated strings in the mail. I put them on, only to find that the winding of the Spirocore Weich Low C string is too big; it simply won’t fit in its hole on the tailpiece all the way to the ball. The other of the strings (Dominants) I put on were a fairly tight fit, but shimmied their way through as I tightened the string.

In the meantime, I’ve put my old Helicore Orchestra B/C string, but would love to try the Weich out. I’m amazed that the huge Helicore fits, but the thinner Weich doesn’t. D’Addario seems to have engineered it so that the section of the string that goes through the tailpiece is thinner than the rest of the string.

So, does anyone have any advice as to what I should do?

Use a round file to widen the slot?
