Buying first set of strings.... Help!

I've been looking to get a pair of EPs but I'm not really sure whether to get Weichs or regular.....

Unfortunately, I'm lost when it comes to string buying. All the strings I've had so far have been hand me downs. Hah. I'm actually not sure what strings I have now. Their wrap at the tailpiece is yellow with light blue spirals.

I'm a freshman in college and I play orchestra, bluegrass, and jazz.

If not Evah's any other suggestions?

Also, I play a flatback 7/8 Shen (willow) if that helps. Thanks so much!

Evah's would be fine. Weichs are not *that* light to play, so I'd stick with them.

Sounds like you have Pirastro Permanents, I've found Spirocore Weichs to be my favourite overall string

Between the two gauges of Evahs, I'd go with weichs. They're honestly not all that different from one another. The regulars are fine strings as well. Either set will serve you well.

Good for you getting hand-me-down strings up to this point. It's nice not to have to buy them. I've had a lot of people be generous with me too.

Enjoy having your first new set!

Thanks guys! I appreciate your help. I think I'll have to go with the Evah Weichs after doing a little more research.

Evah? Weichs? At the risk of sounding out of touch to some young hip string buyers--What the hell is Evahs and Weichs ? I'm just going back to my cave now.

Or you can realize that you've wondered onto the doublebass side of Talk Bass and we speak German over here.

Yeh when I went to bed last night --while I was laying there I thought to myself " I bet they were talking about stand up bass strings". I get delayed reaction like that sometimes! Ha! Have a great day.

Hahaha! TGLbass... Haha. Awesome.

Ja! Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch. Aber nur ein bisschen. Haha. Ich habe das in die (der?) Schule gelernt. Oh Gott.

I most likely made mistakes. But don't we all? Das ist mir egal. Hah
