Corelli or Flexocor?

I'm a serious student who is looking to purchase a new set of strings. My old Helicore orchestra mediums were alright, but I've noticed a change in the response and sound lately and am looking for something new. I am focused on solo work put play regularly in orchestras. The Corelli's and the Flexocor have both been suggested to me but do not know in which direction to lean. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Since I do not have experience with both Corelli and Flexicor I -probably like a lot of members- don't feel qualified to respond. From what I understand, there's a gulf of difference between the Corellis and Flexicor and I think the differences are pretty well documented in these threads.

Corellis have always been fine for me. My teacher says they can have a tendency to sound thin in the lower register. I think Flexicors are probably a better choice for section players. Of course, YRMV.

There's no need to delete this thread.
Au contraire, it'll help other members with the same questioning!

Not sure if you've made your choice already or not, but just in case, I'll offer a couple of observations.

When I used Corelli's (this was a few years ago), they bowed very easily but did indeed sound thin, lacking the volume I got with other strings. I don't know if that would be an issue for you or not. They also felt thin to the touch (because they are thin), almost like a guitar string rather than a bass string.

For Flexocors, I've only tried the G string, not a full set. The G is just about the best G string I've tried, in terms of its full sound, not the nasal, trebly sound that many other steel G strings seem to have on my bass (my bass is on the trebly side, so I'm always searching for a "darker" sounding string).

If you've made your choice already, let us know what you think of the strings you're using.
