corelli med/heavy's -/- spiros

Can anybody compare the medium and or heavy corelli's to spiro mittels? Also in general anybody who has experience with the heavy corelli's care to tell me a bit about them?

I have Spirocore Mittels on one bass and Corelli Mediums on another. I actually had each set on the other bass, so it's a fair comparison. The Corellis are much lighter with less volume. They seem like about half the string as Mittels. I would like to try a heavier gauge at some point because they do feel nice. However, Mittels are hard to beat.

+1. I tried Corellis once and they'll not be back. Given my playing style, it was like trying to tie up a boat with dental floss. IIRC, they are quite low-tension and the bass didn't speak well at all with them. YMMV.

They worked better on the big carved bass. On the old plywood it just sounds like mush. I think I need another set of Mittels. I have a love/hate relationship with Mittels due to the tension, but they sound great on lots of basses. The carved bass has opened up nicely in the year (almost) I've had it and I find the tension to be maybe lower. Mittels bow very well on the bass as well.

Interesting, because when I tried Corelli's it was on a ply. Still, the tension/gauge is not what I would prefer on any bass-- especially when you consider that I'm now using Evahs.

I've used 380TX D and G strings with spiro E and A strings. They bow really well and are ok for jazz pizz. I didn't like the E and A strings for pizz. They bow better than spiros in general, but if you are gonna play jazz, weichs are a better choice.

I have an Eberle ply with great sound. It came with Helicore Orchestras which are great for pizz and bowing but TOUGH on my fingers for pizz; the tension is pretty high. I tried Super Nils; they made hamburger out of my fingers (round-wound, never again) and had no volume, very flabby. I now have Corelli Heavy and really like them. I'm glad I got Heavy rather than Medium, because I wouldn't want anything less in tension or volume. I am a new bassist; these are great until I advance, change my mind again, etc. I don't have tiny hands nor am I weak, but my hands are used constantly playing violin and piano; the Corelli Heavys accommodate all my needs. Good quality and volume for bowing, pizz and easy on the hands.

Happy, Healthy and Propserous New Year to all!
