D'Addario Helicore Solos?!?!?

So my teach tells me my bass is kinda bright and maybe should look into some Helicore hybrids and get off the spiros. He's got them on his 100+ yo bass and it sounds/plays pretty good. Very mellow.

So this morning, I start rummaging through the string drawer, trying this and that just for kicks. Then I find this full set of strings I don't remember. Red silk with gold spirals. I say, what the hell and slap them on. G wasn't bad... pretty good. Much more mellow than the spiros. So I put the whole set on, then I suddenly remembered that my Yamaha SLB came with a set of strings and these had matching kinks with out the TP on the SLB works. So look them up, and they're Helicore solos.

I'm tuning them orch obviously but they play pretty good, even lower tension than spiros. To me, lower tension means you jack 'em up higher. So I gave them a full turn on the adjusters. Feels/plays pretty damn good. I'm surprised. More mellow like I said, a little bit more dull than the spiros, they have a certain amount of punch. The E and A are hella banjo-y right now so I'll let it settle in.

We shall see where this leads...

Are you sure they're not the Pizzicatos?
The solos are more brown, IIRC. (I have a set here)

Agh... I see now, the D'Addario color chart is f'ed up so is my colorblindness. My strings are purplish, so they must be the pizz's?

If they are purple they are the solos. Pizzes are the red ones.
And yes the color chart is f'ed up .

I don't think they'd work that great tuned down as a pizz string.

Maybe... maybe not. Had a duo session tonight and it sounded just fine. Hopefully the really strong banjoness on the E and A will go away soon. It already sounds good on the G and D.

Aha, AH Bob has the colors right on his website. These are pizz's, not solos.
