Adrian -

Do you know if the superflexibles are made to be more of a "jazz" string than the weichs? Or are they thomastik's response to people who want to play both?

Thanks for answering all the questions guys.

this makes me think i should put the superflexibles back on my bass for another try. i took them off after maybe 1-2 weeks for two reasons, they seemed excessively bright with almost too much sustain, and the E seemed a little weak and flabby to me.

How long should the superflexibles be played before they tone down some?

How much brighter are the permanents than a flexocore?

There's no comparison! (at least for the top strings)
The Permanents are higher tension are use a different outer wrap than the Flexocors.
They're completely different.

The first Thomastik bass string was the Precision.
The core was made of solid steel.
Stiff and very bright tone. They're still available today.
Then they came with the kunstler (artist) string, made with a steel rope-core (braided steel), the Superflexible was born.
I don't know exactly when they came out, but I'd say the '50s.
The Spirocore is the next product. It uses a braided steel core, but with a different winding pattern, more elastic.
The Dominant is the latest product, and uses a perlon core.
