D'Addario Prelude strings?

Anyone (attention mon ami Francois!) tried the new D'Addario Prelude strings yet?
How are they for pizz? Any comparisons?

Thanks

I know about this new product, but didn't see it at my usual strings retailers.
I'm not holding my breath, but who knows?

Re: the Helicores.....I agree with you.
The Preludes have some type of rope core. They are advertised for students and priced a little lower than most strings.
I guess I should congratulate myself Francois. Finally found a string you have not tried yet .

I tried the on a bass at the ISB conf. w/the D'Addario rep looking on. He explained that it was the new lesser expensive student line. They're OK for middle school kids in string class, which is what they're made for - kind of a cheaper arco Helicore. I wouldn't bother with them if you already don't like the Helicore or desire strings with a certain degree of consistency.

Hi Martin.
I ordered a set of 1/2 size Preludes, and got them on monday.
I installed the G & D on my EUB, and I must admit they are far better than my expectations!
(pizz only) Very warm tone, a bit thumpy, consistent between the two strings. Comfortable tension.
Excellent craftmanship.
I'd say the tone is somewhere between the Helicore Orchestrals and Hybrids.
The best "student" grade strings I tried so far!

Francois:

Thanks for passing on your thoughts about the Preludes mon ami.
Unfortunately I have never had a good sound (for me) from any Helicore string on any bass.....from pizz light to Orchestra.
As I enter geezerhood I have decided to keep things simple using strings I can live with: Spiro Weichs/gut G on my King and Jazzer/gut or Innovation G on my Eberle.
So.....c'est tous. String experimentation has been a fascinating and expensive ride but I now prefer the satisfaction of putting 'em on and leaving 'em on !

Martin.
