Darkest&punchiest strings for pizz

Hi, newbie here, I'm wondering if there is a type of string which tends to produce a very dark and very punchy sound when played pizz. I'm not happy with my current set of strings (too bright, not enough thump). I know that different basses respond differently, but I have no way of trying various kinds of strings on my bass, so any suggestion is welcome.

Cheers,

Miki

I currently have Pirastro Flexocor Starks on the AD & G of a bass that I use for pizz. They have a good thumpy sound with just the right amount of sustain (for me anyway). I recommend them. Also, I have heard good things about the Velvet Animas set. They are reported to be dark and somewhat gut-like.

Thanks you guys, I've looked at a lot of threads discussing gut and Animas/Garbos as compared with other types of string, and I think I'm going to try the Animas. They seem to deliver exactly what I'm looking for - whether my bass will like them remains to be seen. They cost half of what my bass cost, but where would mankind be today without this sort of flamboyant inanity? (Probably a lot better off... I just love the bass to much, phew.)

Take care,

Miki

At times I've considered buying a flight case and pondered the fact that they cost as much as my bass is worth, or more!
