Difference between Flat-chrome and Flat-chromesteel?

I recently bought a set of Pirastro Flat-chromesteel strings, thinking they were Pirastro Flat-chrome strings. Is there a difference? If so, a large one?

Are you speaking of "Original Flat-Chrome" ?
This is an orchestral string, quite similar to the "Original Flexocor".

The "Flat-Chromesteel" is a completely different string.
It's designed for hybrid work (both pizz and arco).
They're thin and have a bright clear tone.

The important detail between these two brands is the word "Original" in the name.

That said, Pirastro did a big mess a few decades ago with their strings brands.
Fortunately, they now use non-confusing names for their new lines...

Bright blue. I didn't open them because I want to return them.

?
Original Flat-Chromes are white with a purple twist.
Flat-Chromesteels are white withe a ruby twist.
Original Flexocors are purple. That's the nearest from your color.
Are they new?

You'd think they would have renamed the whole line by now. It's really one of the dumbest marketing things I've seen in my days in the music biz. You can name your stuff anything under the sun and you pick names that are so close and so confusing and then make a whole mess of different stuff...it's exquisite stupidity.

Yeah, you've got two products named flexicore and two named flatchrome. Get a marketing guy in there for the love of Pete.

As I remember it, it was a lot like the New Coke thing. They changed the formula of Flexicores, and people complained. So they brought back "original Flexicor". For a while I remember Lemur selling them as "original Flexicor" and "Flexicor 92" which was the year the new one was introduced. They changed Eudoxa from a metal to a gut core string, and naturally Eudoxa fans complained. So those became "original flat-chrome" or some such. Like everyone said, dumb.
