Dlugolecki guts

Hi friends,
How do the Dlugolecki guts ( D&G) compare with Gamuts, Pirastro or other high end gut strings? I play Pizz on a plywood bass.
My thanks,
Candyman

I had a D and G by him a while back. The cool thing about them is that you can figure out the gauge you want, and he'll make them that size for you. So, if you wanted something a little thinner than the Chorda G (and especially the Chorda D, which was always dead sounding to me), you could get that done easily. They still had a big sound, but they were also a lot more clear tonally than the Pirastros.

If you perspire a lot and live in humid condition,I pesonally do not recommend Damian. The reason is that he doesn't put varnish on his bass strings. And you break them in 3 months or little longer than that. I broke 2 sets of G & D in 6 months(I needed better care though) A friend of mine broke them in a month!!(but it happened in hot NYC summer......)

With Gamut(Dan),however, you can choose strings to be varnished or not. And with varnished strings, I can play a set for about 6 months.

The sound of both Damian and Gamut are REALLY beautiful. No kindding, especially bow! They are way better than the other makers' that I have tried.
For pizz, I found that those two makers have interesting difference. Damian has "Old School" sound like Paul Chambers, I think. Gamut has really clear attack and pitch. I'm not saying Gamut is better than Damian, as matter of fact, I liked the bow sound of Damian better than Gamut. It's just a problem of my acidic sweat doesn't go well with Damian.

Hope it helps!! ryoichi

I've had a full set on a New Standard Cleveland laminated since January '07. I can't compare them to any other gut strings on my bass, but they're still going stong and they sound great. Check out this link for more info regarding my (and other's) experiences with these strings...

I've never broken a DB string either. I was kind of refering to the post by rzakota, where he shared this experience with dugolecki guts:

"If you perspire a lot and live in humid condition,I pesonally do not recommend Damian. The reason is that he doesn't put varnish on his bass strings. I am looking to pick up a lightly used set of the Dugoleckis, and was considering how long they'd remain playable for the $$$ one drops on a set.
