Drone String advice

I'm working on a project where I'd like to have a drone C string.
I'm looking for any ideas or concerns you folks might have.
here are some of mine:
#1. Replace the E string with either a high C (a forth above the open G) or an octave below.
#2. Tune down my D string to a C.
#3. Perhaps both.
I'll probably use one of my plywood basses.
Ideas?
concerns?

I play against the open D as a drone quite often when I want to do some Middle Eastern improv stuff. For the melody I usually play up and down the G-string starting at D using a D Hijaz scale (D Eb F# G A Bb C D). It would probably be easiest on the instrument and you to just tune the D-string down to a C if that's the drone you want.

heck, just use 4 c strings. One a forth above G, two a step below D, and one an octave below that. Then get funky.

But seriously, their are many possibilities, and I say try them all. I don't see any reason you couldn't put some wacky string combination on. As long as you don't put to much tension, just go for whatever floats your boat.
