Dull G string

I have just restrung my 5 string with Thomastik Spirocores - the G string is dull with no zing or sustain. The bridge slot for this string is much deeper than the others - it looks as if someone has lowered the action of this string just by deepening the slot. Would this cause the dull sound of this string? Should I reshape the bridge to get the slot to the same height as the other strings? Or does this sound like a bad string?

What did it sound like with the old strings? If it was different sounding than the others there is a bass issue, if not it's a bad string. Thomastic is good about swapping out bad strings for good ones.

...and yes the slot could be to deep, if it pinches the string quite a bit it could hamper it's movement.

It was indeed a bad string. I tried the previous string and it sounded fine. I contacted Thomastik and they replaced the string very efficiently.
Thanks for your suggestion.
