A and E Alternatives

Can somebody tell me about the Thomastik superflexible A and E/C strings? I want to know how they bow and what they sound like and the tension. Are they flabby? I have tried the belcanto A and found it to be a little too loose and flabby for me. What about Pirastro Chomcor A and E/C? I would like to know the same things about these strings.

The Superflexible E&A are not loose and flabby, IMO. I'd say they are medium or medium-high tension, and relatively thick for a steel string. Superflexibles are a very good all-around string that are decent for arco and also jazz pizz. They are less scratchy to bow than Spirocore and their pizz is not quite as growly and sustaining. They will last a very long time and improve when they lose some of their initial brightness. If you are primarily an arco player you may still find them a little bright and buzzy under the bow, but I know that some arco players will use Spirocore on the low strings and these are surely no brighter. For pizz the E may not be as clear and growly as a Spirocore. Other than a synthetic core string, Superflexibles may be the best "crossover" pizz/arco sting that I've tried.

Sorry, I can't tell you anything about the Superflex C or Chromcor.

I am no help.

However, I'm wondering the same thing...for now, I've settled on Pirastro Permanent d/g, and an Evah Pirazzi A (pretty darn good string, considering my bass is very touchy when it comes to the A).

I've got a Belcanto extended E and it's great for bowing, but it's way too dark for pizz and has an odd phasing sound when plucked anywhere in thumb position.

I've got an older set of Superflexibles (standard E) if you want to try them out. I'm not using them, probably won't in the future...how about, say, zero dollars? I'd be happy to send them out, just let me know.
