E-String

I switched over to the flexocores with a stark E as recommended here a few months ago, and I've liked the A,D,G, but I really can't play with the stark E, I hate it. No matter how hard I try (or don't try) to make it sound, the string sounds really dead and doesn't start with the bow. I realize this could also be a sound post issue, but I've had a new sound post put in, and readjusted, since I've had the strings and I've never liked the feel of it.

What other E strings do you recommend for orchestra work? I'm going to put on my old E for now, I can't remember what it is though. It has gold with green stripe thread on the bottom with red and green up top, and I'll see how that is.

Thanks
Patrick

The stark E is one of the easiest E strings to play on for arco IMHO. You could try the belcanto E, but if the stark E isn't playing easily, that sounds like something may be off in your bass.

Maybe, considering what Joey said, the Flex Stark E's are hit and miss. I had a similar experience as you with a Stark E and also with an Original FlatChrome solo F# and a Flat Chromesteel E. Right now I am using an Original Flex E, which is kind of heavy, but it sounds really nice. I've also had good results with the D'Addario Helicore arco E and I've heard good things about the Permanent E.

Sounds like an heavy gauge Hybrid Helicore.
You may want to try an Original Flexocor E.
Heavy, but more supple than the Stark '92 E.

I'm in a terrible mood this morning, with oil at below $55 (investment bankers ((you know which boys I mean)) driving down the price) so forgive me if I'm a bit short-The flexacore original E in my opinion ruins what would be a slam dunk set.
With all the bizarre combinations you guys have tried, why not stick to the pld Philly formula: Original Flex G D A and Medium Spirocore Ext or regular E.
This isn't rocket science (or pebble bed tech!) after all.
I'm losing a ton of money on my long positions. I've got outstanding calls at $80! Eventually I'll be right!
God bless,
SAW

I really like the pirastro perm E. Clarity and a real quick start with the bow.
