Hey all, I have been trying to decide what strings to get, as it is that time again. I have been using spiros (mittel) up until now, while also having a set of lenzner wound guts on my bass at one point. Anyways, I absolutely love the oliv g string, and and stuck in deciding whether to go with a new set of spiros on the bottom or to check out the EP's. They look like good strings and have got some great reviews, and i have really wondering if they might be better. I wouldn't mind having a slightly lower tension than the spiro mittels either, what are the EP weichs like?
If anyone has any input on this dilemma, or even a suggestion apart from what I just mentioned, any advice would be welcomed.
Thanks

Thanks |

So I would suggest Spiros Weich to match the Oliv G. The stiffer strings (Mittels or EP) would kill the Olive G. |

By the way the bass I am putting the on is a (roughly) 30 year old german bass, which is plywood.
Thanks |

Marcus sent me his EP weichs and they are fabulous with the Olive G. The windings, tension, punch, decay, etc, etc. really work together. EP weich all the way.

(i know every bass is different, just looking for a general idea)

You will see that I ran animas for a bit but they didn't bow very well and I got tired of black fingers.

Very even, playable tension and consistent tone and volume across the board. The EP standard D seems to help "transition" from the gut Oliv to the Evah weichs nicely.

I thought that the weich string as the lower three would have matched more ideally in tension.
I have found on talkbass that the oliv set's tension is:
G-63.2lbs
D-60.8lbs
A-59lbs
E59.9lbs
Of course I am only going to be using an oliv g. But i cannot find anywhere information on the string tensions of either EP standards or weichs?? Can anyone help out with that? would be much appreciated.
Thanks |

The EP weich matched best tension and size with the olive on my bass, but in the end i wound up with spiro mittels. I think the spiro mittels match better when they get some age on them. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
