Evah String Life?

I've had evah pirazzi's on my arvi since last august (going on ten months now) and i really feel like they might be dying. i've played them a lot, and pretty hard over the course of this year, so it isnt unreasonable to think their life is ending. they've gotten a lot more thuddy and less sustain recently. anybody wear a set out yet? I love the strings, so I'll certainly be buying another set (possibly with an olive g this time). thoughts?

You could try some rubbing alcohol to clean up the strings a little. I did this recently and they came back to life quite nicely. Mine have settled in where I like the sound and thump very much, arco is sweet too.. but they definitely have deadened a little. Mind you, they haven't lost life like Obligatos do at all... when those die, forget it.

can you describe in more detail what it is like when the string is dead/dying. What is thump?

They have always had the thump, these strings. I think some folks here originally thought the thump to be TOO heavy. but it's a nice percussive flavor as the note begins. If anything, when the string dies, it looses it's overtones and you don't get much after the thump... maybe the volume goes away and the note is indistinct. With Obligatos, the sting becomes totally unusable real placid, like a wet noodle. Not here with the Evahs, but we seem to all be waiting for this since it's got that nylon core same as the Oblis. I found a little shine on the string gets it to jump back, but we are still waiting!

i too, am a fan of the thump on these strings. but it is like there isnt much sustain after the thump right now. before it was a pretty nice balance, but im losing some of that sound after the initial attack. mostly on the g-string, and it is especially noticeable when playing amplified.

I've now had mine on for over a year, and they are actually getting better and better (less thump and more sustain/articulation as they get older). Quite a string.
