Flexocor - what is this metal protector bit about?

did a search on this and came up with nothin

New Flexocor E string just put on and i notice there is a metal thing called a "protector" in a satchel of its own. oops

where does this go?
can i do without it?
are the other strings supposed to have them as well?? (ie. oops oops oops?)

This was only supplied with the E string, right?
It's a kind of curved steel channel?
Goes between the string and bridge.
That was more necessary with solid steel core strings, to round the string angle over the bridge, to prevent breakage.
With modern steel rope-core strings, this isn't necessary at all.

yeh only came with the E string - flexocor '92

so i don't need it?

just bin it?

They come with every Pirastro Bass steel E string, in fact.

No, but it doesn't hurt to use it if you wish.
