G string tension relative to the rest of the set?

I recently acquired a bass that is strung with Supersensitive red label strings and the G string feels significantly stiffer than the D, A, and E strings. Is this normal? String height is currently about 7-10mm and the other 3 strings feel pretty consistent with each other.

I tried a search on here and other sites, but couldn't find an answer to this specific issue. Thanks.

What are the silk colors at the peg end for the four strings, please?
This is the way to ID them.

Ball end color is red on all 4, the peg end g-e are: green, grey blue and yellow. According to the string ID guide on the Quinn's site, it is correct, but it sure feels uneven.

I had the same set when I picked up a bass recently and my D string was super stiff compared to the G,A,E. Put a set of obligatos on and all the strings are even with tension now. I just chalked it up to less than great strings.

That's what I was suspecting: inconsistency. I may try changing the G for now to see if it improves.

Well, honestly, red labels are about the cheapest strings on the market, and having a full steel-core, they're very rigid.
Modern steel strings use a braided core, so called rope-core.

Well, I swapped the G out for another red label (not a lot of choices locally out here in the flatlands) and it is MUCH better. This will do until real strings are in order.
