Help

I just installed Evah Pirazzis on my Eminence. A few minutes later, while tuning, the E string came off the tuner shaft. This tuner is like a bass guitar tuner in that it has a slot rather than a hole through the shaft. The problem is that there is too much thick string on the E string, and it literally pushed some of the string off as I was winding more on to get up to pitch. The only solution I can see is to trim the string at the end. This will mean much less to go on the peg.

My big question involves cutting synthetic core strings, such as Obligato and EP. Will cutting some of the end off weaken the structure of the string? I figure that someone on TB has already done this. If you have, did it create any problems, such as unraveling? The EPs are brand new, and I don't want to ruin them. As a short-term solution, I took an old Obligato, cut it shorter, and installed it with the EPs.

Thanks in advance for any help.

George

I've never had problems with trimmed strings of any kind.
I always left at least two inches of the silked part though.
I've trimmed Obligatos too and also EPs.
