this really sucks as i've got my final music exam in three weeks and i need some time to practice. it's all pizz. jazz stuff, i need something low tension, fairly bright and something that is definitely easy to get my hands on, i live in an isolated region of Australia so i'll have to order them from interstate and i can't wait for them to come into stock.
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you can afford it, get the whole set- that way you've got a backup. |

| | | | 3 weeks is just enough time to properly break in a set of spirocores. I'd change them all and keep the old ones as spares. Spiro weich for light tension, Mittel for medium tension. |

Been using a set of Doms for a couple of years (ouch) and, after breaking an A the other night on a gig, am thinking about going back to Spiro Weichs. I've been going amp-less with the Doms with a trio w/drums and am a little worried about the loss of projection. My memories of the Spiros are that they sounded so darn good for jazz/pizz on my bass, even though bowing them was rough. If you're using an amp and going for a more modern jazz/pizz tone (e.g., a little more sustain-y), Spiro Weichs are probably the way to go. Just my $.02 and will see how it goes for me. |

I believe he did it whilst attempting to climb my bass, he's more of the mountaineer type.
the only store i could get to express post them didn't have spiro weichs, went with d'addario pizzicatos, medium tension, hope they'll do... thanks for your help guys |

| | | | Is it too late to just use 3 strings? That's what Slew Paulson taught us to do. |

I don't think they (either) would be considered a low-tension string. If you're used to a low-tension string it may take some time to get comfortable on the higher-tension mediums. You might want to consider just throwing on the G until after the exam, even though it will be weird with a brighter-sounding G. A lot of players seem to like the Mittel D and G matched with the Weich E and A, so you could try replacing the D and G.
Hope you kick booty on the exam. |

I did take your recommendation seriously or whatever, sorry about your feelings |

yeah i just wanted a lower tension because the strings i'm on at the moment happen to be the stiffest set of cheap factory strings ever produced
thanks dude, i'll hit the 'shed real hard after they arrive tomorrow |
