Help Identify Strings

Hi all,

I've been playing double bass for about 6 months and am looking to try out some new strings. I'd like to try the stings on a bass in store that has the best pizz sound of all I've found locally but I have no idea what they are. So I place myself before the collective wisdom of talk bass.

The strings have blue silks at both ends, but their most distinct feature is they're very ruff. They're not full round wounds but they may qualify as half-rounds. Also the bass they're on and presumably came with is, I believe, an eberhard.

Any ideas?

Light blue silk at both ends could be Thomastik Superflexibles.

I've never thought of Superflexibles as being rough.

Neither did I. I'm stumped.
Pictures maybe?

Corelli strings may be somewhat rough, but certainly not "half-rounds".

Velvet strings come to mind.
Do they have a copperish color?

I'll see if I can get some pictures in the next few days. I was hoping the fact that they're rough would make it obvious, at least in my experience that's pretty rare.

I'd say they're low tension as well if that helps, but I don't really have the experience to say that with complete confidence.

Francois,

If they where coppery coloured it wasn't strong enough for me to notice at the time. It it subtle or are we talking about a strong copper colour?

I'll obviously have to try and get an image of them.

The usual Velvets colour is an obvious copper.
Except the 180s maybe.

OTOH, there are no Velvets with blue silk like you described.

Pics are necessary I think!

I give you pics.

Unfortunately I didn't realise how bad the focus was till I got home.

As for the winding I'll further my description. They are definitely flat wound but they have rounded corners or even just large gaps which makes them feel a lot like round wound strings.
