heritage - bowed nightmare or defective?

I just swapped a Heritage D into an otherwise Evah Weich set, looking for a little more brightness in the tone. The pizzed sound is just about right, so I was encouraged. Then I took the bow to the Heritage. This has got to be the most hideous sound I have heard out of my bass in some time. There is a metallic buzz on every note, as well wolf-like behavior on many notes, including open D. Does this sound like a defective string, and has anyone ever had this problem? Unfortunately I only got the one string so I can't compare to other Heritages.

That actually made me laugh out loud. Well, a friend of mine has these strings on his bass and plucked they sounded, well, just okay, bowed they sounded like what you're describing.

Believe me, I was not laughing when I heard it! Another thing I forgot to mention, this buzz is much more pronounced on the down bow than the up. Weird!

When I was in my Heritage phase a few years ago, I had to go through several D strings before I got one that didn't twist 360 degrees before the note started. I'm having good results with Weichs, both arco and pizz.

Interesting, so there seems to be some inconsistency or QC issues with the Heritage Ds. I'm liking the Evah weichs a lot, too. It's just on my bass the D is duller than the G and A pizzed. Bowed is not a problem.
