How do I tell what sort of strings i have?

I have a set of strings that came with the bass. I bought it used, at half price. I believe he switched once, but i am not sure. They look sort of flatwound (im guessing all db strings are flatwounds?), metallic, but i am wondering what brand they are, if they are actually any good for arco (sounds ok to me), and if their metallic content is high enough for use with a magnetic pickup DIY-project i am getting into.

Broke as dirt, so i cant spend any money on new strings, but it would be nice to know. After i have finished my pickup project, it would be ok to know if it is the strings that are ruining everything, or if i did something bad to the pickups.

Excuse my english, please.

Post a picture of where the string ends below the bridge. The colors and ball-shape are good indicators.

Yeah, take photos of both ends of the strings. We love this game.
