I need an E string suggestion

I have a great bass with an underpowered E string. I have put on the permanent E string, which added some bottom and bows great, but is still not what I want with the punch of the Pizz.

I have an Evah A string now, and flat chrome steel strings on the D and G, not that that really matters.

+1. The Stark is where it's at, but if you can find a used Mittel E (probably easier to do so) it might be worth trying that too.

In my experience, ALL the strings matter on a bass- the combination of string tensions can really open or choke a bass.

For an (extreme) example on my bass- when I had plain guts on the G and D and mittels on the A and E, the mittels played nice and soft and boomy. But with all mittels, my bass felt too tight, and the E never worked.

So for YOUR bass it could be that the Spiro Stark E works great with the strings you have on now. Or if you like the Permanent you have on, try some lighter and heavier strings on the G, D and A to get a feel of your basses quirks.

Another option to think about would be Velvet strings, they have constant tension across all strings and can really open up a bass.

Another option would be to chuck all spiros on and never think about strings again.
