I Put Some Innovation Blacks On Today

My Innovation Blacks came today from Jerry Fretwell! I didn't waste a minute getting them put on my carved bass. Let me say that if you don't have one of those string winders from Gollihur Music......get one. Anyway, I noticed the package said "High Tension" as I was putting the strings on, but they are not as high tension as the steel strings I took off. I am really pleased with that woodsy tone I'm getting now with these blacks. They have a subtle growl I wasn't getting with the steels as well, and I like that, too. If you do any slapping you'd like these strings compared to the steel strings. The tension is somewhat less but not floppy, so I'm still getting the punch and sustain I want as well. It's gonna take a little rosin build-up before they bow better, but the more I bowed the better it got. I like the way these strings look, too. I don't know what to expect as they break in, but I'm liking them early on. If you are considering a set be sure and get them from Jerry Fretwell, because he has a friendlier price than the Upton Innovation Blacks, and he's one of the easiest fellers to deal with I have seen......very helpful and accomodating. If I had it to do over I would get another set.

+1 Fretwell!

Just ordered the same strings from the same man today! Can't wait to try them.

Regards,

Mike

There is a post on here several months ago about UB Blacks, maybe that is the one you remember. This particular post is on BluegrassBassPlace.com as well.
