I really need some string help/advice!!

I'm relatively new to upright playing and after doing up my upright i've decided to get some decent strings on it.

This is the bass i learned classical stuff on at school - it still has the same striungs on it as it did back then 0ver 10 years ago!!

Basically i'm a pizz player - playing jazz gigs at the moment. I'm after a really growly, greasy fat tone - i really love the sound when i play too hard and get the fingerboard buzz in the string tone.

I've basically come across 3 different sets in my price range that seem like they might do the job after doing a little resereach.

These are the Hellicore Pizz series, Pirastro Jazzers and the Spirocores..

What would people recomend out of these strings?

Spiros. Try the reds first. If your hands can handle the tension, you're all set. If not, you can move on to the Weichs (purples) and have the best "must have" set for any bassist already in your string drawer for when your hands toughen up.

I'd say Spiros as well...
Just try whatever you want to try and see how it works. It's all about trial and error anyway.

You'll end up with Spiro reds sooner or later.

Cool! Thanks. I can prob take the tension. I always like to have something to dig into and really work plus the action until recently was really high on the bass so my left hand has had a good work out!!
