If you thought guts were expensive...

Just wait untl they start whipping up the bass versions of these:
BBC News - Spider silk spun into violin strings

Entirely feasible for DBs, apparently. Study says the tensile strength is weaker than guts, but stronger than nylon-core with metal wrappings. Also asserts this isn't just a science stunt, that "Several professional violinists reported that spider strings... generated a preferable timbre, being able to create a new music."

Wonder if the unique structure of these strings can be reproduced synthetically. Intriguing, at any rate.

Spider silk gets very weak quite quickly. The article is silent about what they do to treat the web so it has some durability time-wise.

maybe these new spiderman bass strings can be genetically engineered to walk eighth notes by themselves?
