Jargar dolce or innovation rockabilly.

I'm trying to decide which of these I should go with. I'm looking for a string with short sustain and low tension. i play pizz about 60% of the time, slap about 30% and bow about 10% of the time. I've tried Eurosonics and liked the feel but the papery tone and brutal arco made them unusable for me. only lasted 4 days on the bass. I've heard the UB blacks are bowable and have the same windings as the rockabillys, has anyone tried bowing them? I'm into nylon for slapping and I think they would be softer on the fingerboard, I've had problems with getting grooves from slapping. If the rockabillys don't work for arco I think i'll got with the Jargars cause it sounds like they're the closest steel to gut. If anybody has any advice that would be great! Thanks.

Caroline, the bass player with Big John Bates and the Voodoo Dolls is playing the Innovation Blacks and loving them. They make a nicer sound than I expected and they have decent tension too.

I am currently using the Innovation Blacks on my ply. The blacks are higher tension than the Silver Slaps and bow better as well. But, IMO/E, neither bowed as well as the Spiro's I was using on my E and A. However, Pizzicato, they are fantastic. Short sustain, lots of boomy lows, and a sharp clack for slapping. If you bow only 10% of the time, they will probably work for you.

There are a few threads on the the Blacks from a few months ago, maybe look at those for more opinions.

Regards

Mike
