Jazz/Slap

I'm a straightforward jazz player, also like to bow, also like to slap.
a) What strings would suit all styles?
b) Synthetic core with metal outer wrap?
c) Does one need a high action to slap? Your preferences of height from the end of F/D to bottom of E string?
d) Make of string you are happy with?

Advise most welcome.

All three techniques were invented on gut strings.....thats can be a long road though. Maybe something like Animas? Low tension and bowable depending on your needs.

Yes, like I´ve written elsewhere, I´m very happy doing all these three styles with Velvet Animas. Especially when the emphasis is on straight ahead jazz...

I was asking the same thing, and Evah Pirazzi Weichs seemed to be the majority reply. I'm still waiting for the disposable income to try 'em. I'm currently using Lambert Deluxes on one bass but I don't think I can reccomend them for your needs...they are very gutlike, so there's not much power or definition in the lower strings. They slap very well though. Those lower strings don't bow too well either. You don't really need to have your action way up for slapping, by the way. I have the bass with the Lamberts set with the G at about 3/8" at the end of the fingerboard, and my other bass is lower yet...with the lower tension string you may want to set your action higher than mine, but I'm finding it's working for me. Later this week I'm gonna probably put some Velvet Animas on the E and A string of the Lamberts bass, and see how that works...I'm actually liking the D and G a lot.

I liked Evah weichs for all three styles, but they wouldn't last long (maybe 3 months with 6-7 nights a week working). Synth core never lasts long when you're slapping IMHO YMMV. The Anima suggestion has merit though. Now I just use Spiro weichs, and they seem to get the job('s) done.
