Keeping Obligatos in tune?

I have a set of Obligato's that I bought for an ES1. When I sold the bass took the strings off and just put them on my carved bass. They were on the ES1 for maybe a few months and I remember it took a while for them to stay in tune. They have only been on my carved bass for a few days and I keep having to tune them up. Is this normal? I am wondering if this is to be expected or if this is a sign of the short life span that I hear about Obligato's?

Thanks
Scott

sounds normal

That sounds normal to me. I've done what you are describing (taking Obligatos of one bass and putting them on another) and it takes a couple of days for them to stay in tune. They usually stay in tune very well after that.

Thank you so much. That is what I was thinking but I just wanted to hear from someone else who had the same experience. Sometimes I get kinda paranoid about product "problems" that I hear about on the internet.

I've used Obli's for a few years now and I have to tune them "up" every few days. Seems they constantly go flat, especially with weather changes...

Dear Forum,
talking about Obligatos, I've decided to buy a Solo Set for my classical concerts. But I have to tell you that there are really fragile, feeble. The 2nd string (MI) has arrived unwind and I have asked to change it ASAP ... I know with passing of day tuning will go better, but windings are very fragile, I repeat and the 1st string (LA) is a little bit larger in fact of diameter in comparison with Helicore or other models by Pirastro. Sound is wonderful, even if the 4th string is a little bit limp. So the general tone is much better in comparison with Corellis 360 Medium I used before, but I must change my way of playing (expecially vibrato and its fast) to obtain the maximum of results. Now I experiment, than (if my 2nd string doesn't break before) I will decide to mantain or to test D'Addario, very used here in Italy.
Suggestion or opinions?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Regards
Vito Liuzzi

Vito, sorry you had a bad experience with the Obligatos. I have not had that problem with the windings on my set. I love the sound of the Corelli's for arco but I prefer the Obligato's tone for jazz and they also work very well with the bow on my bass.

The question is that Pirastro wants back the string with the problem of widding but I can't send it because It's a strange period in which I don't have a substitute one. Before of Obligatos Solo string I was testing Corelli 360 Solo Medium.
I can't play with Obligatos and a Esolo Corellis Medium string.
So I've decided to tell Pirastro that There was no problem if they couldn't change it basing on the word of a teacher who prefers his students play on Obligato Orchestra.

It will be a good year for me.

Ciao.

unwinding

Vito:

Maybe I misunderstood your issue with Pirastro, but it's possible they want the string back to do root cause analysis (i.e. figure out what's wrong with it, and how to prevent it from happening again). If you are using the string, maybe they could send you a replacement and then you could send them the damaged string. Hope I haven't misunderstood your situation.
