I did the Eurosonic thing this summer. I really liked them for what they were. Started with the Ultralights - they had a nice, mellow, controlled-growl sort of thing happening on top of that gut-ey pop/boom. Very low tension, easy on the left hand, but lacking in punch somewhat as a result. I should qualify that by saying that they sounded great recorded with a mic in front of the bass - more definition, much better than I expected - but they didn't really seem to cut it pizz in a live setting with a pickup. Almost but not quite.
The Lights got a bit better - they're darker than the ultralights, but the added tension (we're still talking fairly low here) added some punch. Something I didn't like about the E though.
If I'd spent some more time with both sets, I'm sure I could have learned to pull a better sound out of them, or found a better E to pair them with. I guess I didn't see the point in making the time investment for a string that can't be bowed. I traded for a set of Evah Weichs and am much happier. They've tightened up the low end on my bass, I'm getting that 'punch you in the gut' feeling that I've been looking for when I play it now.
I hadn't really combined the Eurosonics with anything else, but if one was looking for a G/D to pair with, say, Spiros on the bottom, either would be a good match for pizz.
