kolstein off corelli 370tx on.

Just my veiw. i replaced my year old kolstein herritage strings thursday about 3 hours before my gig. the gig is a acoustic duo. the strings pretty much stayed in tune with one tune up over the evening that was one good thing about the strings. but i must say that i was not suprized about the strings or excited as i usally am when i put them on. they feel hard on the right hand and i find the tone kind of blaa, i really missed the volume that i got from my herritage strings. i played a trio gig the next night using my polytone although they were pretty clear i had to work alot harder to get the sound out even with the turned up louder then i would ussally set it at.
i found myself turning the bass on the amp way up almost to 10 to get a full sound like i would with other strings. witch took away from the sound off the strings. bottom line for me im not sold, so just a heads up if comparing the 370 tx to obs, dominants, herritage, ect.. i dont feel there in the same league.
i will have to search on
the herritage is a nice string.
and for anyone intrested i might have these corelli 370 tx used 2 times up for sale soon.

Thanks for the comments Rob.
Corellis will indeed give less volume.
That's the drawback for better ease of play.
However I'm taking your comments on the tone quality with a grain of salt, as these strings are almost new and not break in yet.
The Corellis take two to three weeks to settle in, and then the tone gets warmer and fuller.
You may not gain some volume, although your bass may like the lower tension, and she'll take some time to release the pressure from the previous set and stabilize with the new ones, and then get louder. (but it may not be the case)
I suggest you wait at least two weeks to judge them correctly.

Just my $0.02!

Regards,
François

Thanks Francois for the reply.
Im going to take your advice and keep them on for a couple weeks as i would like for these strings to work for me. there is something about the attack that is powerful when pulled hard on the strings that i do enjoy as i just played them again tonight. thanks again Francois.

Yes, they're really sensitive and responsive.
I found the 371F G to be better than the TX though.
A little more tension and warmer sounding.
See this:

I also like the 382TX and 383TX (nickels) better than the 370's (tungsten). Warmer sounding.

I don't like the E's though, but a TI Superflexible one makes a good match.

Yes, patience with the new strings. I almost always want to rip off new strings shortly after installation. Waiting awhile for the strings to mellow takes patience.

That said, I recall trying Corellis on my American Standard and thought they were brighter than I'd like. I don't think I had the patience to let them warm up. OTOH, the bass currently has Permanents, which also start out a bit bright. In that case, their large volume and full sound kept them on until they warmed up.
