Kolstein strings

What are the opinions about this strings?

What is the difference beteen the Varicore and Heritage set?

I am looking for something new. I am using Spiricore weichs right now.
I do jazz but also a lot of classical bowing.

The Varicores were designed by Kolstein with Original Flexocors in mind, but the tone is clearer.
They're all steel.
The Heritage is similar to Obligatos, and have a synthetic core as well.

For arco work, the Varicores are a better choice.

Hope this helps!

thanks for the advise.

will strings with synthetic core also work well with a pickup or do you need all steel strings?

And do the Varicores also work for (jazz) pizzicato?

I have some doubt whether to order Kolstein strings or Evah Pirastro weichs or something else that I haven't heard of yet. I have read good things about the Evah's on this forum. My (classical) teacher uses Kolsteins and was quite happy with them.

The Heritages are wound with flat metal tape.
Pickup?
You can use any string with a piezo pickup.
For a magnetic pickup, these strings should work, but maybe will less output than an all-steel string.

The Varicores can be pizzed.
They give a warm tone with not much sustain.

I meant magnetic pickups.

I also like some more sustain when playing pizzicato.
Maybe the Evah's are a better option then?

The Evahs don't have much sustain either, IMO.
Did you read the Evah megathread?

Yeah, i agree on the Evahs. Don't worry about what your teacher uses, they got there from their own experiments, their own setup and their own inner voice. Pick a string that works for you.

Yes, I know, every bass and setup and playing style is different.
I am just trying to find out the options for a string which is good for both (classical) arco and jazz pizzicato.

I have read the Evah thread some time ago. I Have to read it again.

Beware, it's a synthetic core string too.
Don't know how good it'd sound with a magnetic pickup.
