LaBella 7710s: Fingerboard noise?

I'm trying some LaBella tapewounds this summer, and am encouraged so far. Very happy with the sound of the D and G.

However, on the E, I am getting a lot of creaking noise where the string meets the fingerboard, especially down in 1/2 through 2nd position. (And especially towards the end of the gig, when my left hand starts to weaken.) This is picked up by my Full Circle and is mildly unpleasant.

Might this diminish over time? Any tips or recommendations for the string, nut, or fingerboard? Is this just how nylon on ebony behaves?

AFAIK this sort of thing doesn't really go away. The only way I've gotten a nylon string to quiet down is to rough up the surface with fine grit sandpaper. I wouldn't recommend it though, it does weird things to the tension and sustain.

I did notice though, that if I ever got stuck plugging the pickup straight into an amp with too low of an impedance that that squelchy fingerboard noise got much worse. (This is probably obvious).

Raising the action helped some. EQ'ing out some high mids did too.

YMMV, IMO, de yadda de yadda
