Labella Goldentone Red Label??????

Does anyone have experience using these?

The description on Quinn Violins site states:

"These are the premium gut core strings from LaBella. Goldentone is a hybrid set, meaning that the G and D are gut core, while the A and E have a steel rope core."

They're priced at $235 for a set, which seems pretty fair.

Goldtones are gut core with tynex(plastic) wrapping,, very close to the old Golden Spirals,,these are good strings they hold up well I like them for summer use when its real hot and sticky. plain guts can get really nasty,,but with the tynex wrap they stay in a lot better shape,,Kent

I had a golden spiral G break and I really needed strings. I decided to seek out a golden tone G and couldn't find a single string, so I bought a whole set. After all, the gigs must go on. So far all I've used is the G. I continue with my old D golden spiral and my years old spirocores. All I can say is that I like the G. It is a good replacement for the apparently defunct golden spiral.

a year ago i bought a labella goldentone D and after a week, the tynex separated from the core, on the other hand i had a G that i used for some months and gave away to a friend that used it for a while. what i dont like about the tynex/ polyester windings is that somehow they have this "plastic" sound that i dont like, specially when slapping .
however for playing open airs or humid places, i admit they are a better solution than plain gut that gets sticky.

I've been playing G & D Goldentone strings on my bass for about 3 years now (the same 2 strings). They were new old stock strings and I have YET to experience any problems with them. I play ONLY pizz, no arco.

The set you are speaking of (including steel E & A) sounds very much like the string combination many players have used for years.

On Lemur's site, the price of this same G & D are worth about $150-$165 with shipping. $235 for the whole set is not too bad of a price in my book.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm trying to decide what to replace my Labella blacktape strings with, and these sound like they might be a good option to put on my old Kay for jump blues.
