lemur gut strings

Hello there

Has anyone bought the all gut set of strings that lemur
music sells??
If so,what about the E string???
Does it sound good or due to the thickness has a muddy sound???
I just use plain gut strings on my bass and for me its the only to achieve the sound i love(Blanton,Pops Foster,Slam Stewart,Willie Dixon....)
I just got problems with the E(i'm always in old music stores trying to fing old gut strings), sometimes they are so thick and muddy....however last week i played with a bass with gut strings and the E was great,not so
thick as usual and with a great sound....
The owner told me that he thought that those strings came from lemur,but he was not sure....
Does anybody uses this lemur set???
Please let me know before i burn $200.

I use Lemur (European) gut. The last set came in a Goetz package???? Anyway, I only use a D & G. I have discovered that each new string sounds different. I assume this is common with gut given the material and how they are made. I have a Lemur A. This thing is huge. Too thick for my setup. Took it off immediately therefore I can't give a good testimony of the sound. (also my nut was not cut for it) I have never seen an E. It must be thicker than a pencil! Let me know if you discover a lighter gut. It is so amazing that Scott LaFaro achieved his sound with strings this thick.

Hello farmerdude....
My problem is not the A ,even my A is thick,gives me a big fat sound...The problem is the E,is really thick and it sounds really muddy.
The goetz strings are made in Europe in Germany but believe it or not its almost impossible to find them here...i tried to find a web site from goetz,an adress, nothing.But i know they manufacture gut strings in different gauges,in the past i got 2 different Gs and Ds so i think that the ones from Lemur are goetz.The strings i tried on this bass,were much thinner gut, i prefer my G,D and A but the E WAS GREAT
I even think this E was thinner than my current A but what a great sound....
Amazing how some bass players used to play with gut and achieve such an outstanding sound in all strings and registers....and in some pictures and old videos that i got,seems like they're playing with ropes,so thick are the strings.If i find something about these thinner gut i'll let you know.
