Lycon Strings

Hey guys, for those who are looking for a few of the legendary (you know who you are!) there are some 'G', 'A' and 'C' strings on Ebay UK.

Happy hunting!

Thanks, Jake! I saw those a few days ago. I wish a full G-D-A-E set was available. For now, I'm quite happy with my Spiros, but if I could....

Really? I thought you'd at least want to use a Lycon 'G' with your Spirocores, given your avatar and all...

I figure a Spiro 'E' will work and a matching 'D' string will be findable.

Hell, I bought a G. If I wasn't broke I would have bought all of them. $11 for a string as mythical as the unicorn?

It's worth it just for the future pontification it opens up for me. Plus I'll be able to sell it to you stiffs for at least $20 if I'm so inclined. I didn't even want a G string right now, I'm fully smitten with the results of my last experiment.

Come on TBDB! You call yourselves string addicts?

'String addicts'?! I'd better not tell you how many I bought...

PS The 3/4 'G' strings are all gone.

A full Lycon set or none at all for me. I've never been a string mixer and I especially wouldn't do it with the Lycons. I couldn't stand having just one or two of those fantastic strings. I'd end up trying not to play on the other ones. It would be heartbreaking.

I think you're not really a Lycon guy after all - and after talking about getting somebody to make some Lycon copies...sheesh

Nah, it's because I'm a tried and true Lycon guy that I can't deal with a partial set. Now that's a purist! Maybe you just have to have had played them for years to understand. Perhaps I should have snagged a G to see if I would prefer the mix with the Spiros but that opportunity has passed.

As for talking about someone making copies, who knows? One of these days you may discover that talk has led to action.

I actually have used Lycons and even own an unused E.

I tried a Lycon D several years ago but at the time I did not know the history of the brand. I mixed it with a Spiro Weich set on a Kay C-1. I remember The Lycon was a lot more full and solid sounding than the Weich D with a tad more tension.

Arrived today. Nice looking string. Very well made. Supple like a pirastro. Very tight very flat wrap winds. Measures .050".

Won't put it on until my Oliv G breaks though. Gotta get as many miles out of that as possible.
