So my strings arrived yesterday, all present and accounted for. They look a *lot* like jargars.

Popped a 3/4 'G' onto my wife's bass, the bass I know best. Less tension than the Weich it replaced and less stiff but almost exactly the same diameter at .049 on my digital calipers.

My wife played it and said "Where's the rest?!"

The string has a zing to it - you can really feel how strongly it is vibrating in your fingertips. The sound is more three dimensional than the (well-used ) Weichs it was matched with and full of life.

I took it off her bass and put it on my hybrid Roma - same thing only more so - the interaction with the spruce top is really very nice and it is lovely arco, even with me wielding the stick...

Does anybody who has previous experience with Lycons have a suggestion for a 'D' string to match the 'G' and 'A'?

Thanks, Jake

I think Lycon makes a nice D....

Sounds great. I still haven't put mine on, but glad to hear from someone who has.

Jake:

The closet steel string I was able to find that matched the Lycon D I had was Pyramid Soloflex. Unfortunately I had to order them from Germany. I may have an old D lying around that I could mail to you to try.

I figure a Spiro 'E' will work and a matching 'D' string will be findable.

Hey Martin, thanks for the tip and the generous offer! I think I have a Pyramid here that came as a throw-in with some other used strings (maybe from you).

I'll check the string cupboard and get back to you.
