| | | | Major dilemna!! So I made the mistake of telling the wife awhile back i needed new bass strings. I had obligatos in mind for my 39 Kay. I put it off awhile and guess what i got for a fathers Day present............ a brand new set of.......
Super sensitive red labels !!!!!
So do I.......
use them to stake up a tree in the backyard
silently throw them away and buy the obligatos and not tell her
put on the red labels and suffer for awhile then replace them
seek legal advice to see if it is good grounds for divorce?

I told my wife years ago, never try to buy me a tool, instrument, etc. without me being there, because there's no way for her to tell if it will work for me.
Try to do this as lovingly as possible, and make sure the explanation is as boringly technical as you can make it, so she never tries to do it again

Bad thing was, they had been on the shelf so long they were rusted, and the jerk at the music store refused to take them back, or even credit them towards another purchase. Goes without saying never done any more business with them. |

Tell your wife, "Great gift idea, Hon! But I just prefer a slightly different brand."
DO NOT SAY: "You f@#king b&*ch, you've ruined my life!" |

| | | Update....... she urged me to put them on. She was so proud of herself, she did make the comment that if they weren't what i wanted I might be able to return them but "All those other strings are really expensive!" Then she told me where she got them and it's a ripoff music store that i swore never to set foot in again after they openly lied to me on a guitar deal which I turned down.
so...the Dread Labels are on my bass. It actually sounds better than it did, but the old strings were that..old!!! They were on it when i bought it a year ago and the previous owner was a bass horse trader who didn't have a clue what they were or how long they had been on it.
I'll ply them for awhile if they don't hurt too much and maybe in a couple months get some obligatos.
I am still considering the legal advise though. |

Honestly though, my wife would just laugh at the very thought of her buying me anything related to my work.
Try to put a positive spin on it. The Red Labels are like banging your head against the wall; it feels so great when you stop. |

I can live with the red labels for awhile but i'll upgrade next time around. |

Therefore, as you progress on bass towards slap style in your BG endeavors, you'll want a different string for slapping.
