My experience with strings

I have an hybrid db, pretty decent bass. I have started with Evah Pirazzi weigh, pretty good string (I had on my cello as well), but the sound was not that powerful on E and A, D was ok and I didn't like the G string , too close to a fretless bass. I worked a bit on the action with not much improvements. Playability of the EP is excellent, low tension and easy particularly in thumb position. I moved to Spirocore. A bad idea. High tension, difficult to play, the bow was terrible (EP for bowing are excellent). I hated the G string immediately , too thin an miles away for my idea of DB sound (La Faro, Ron Carter). So I immediately changed the G in favor od Eudoxa Gut string. Another planet !!! Excellent string very close to what I think a DB should sound. I change the D string as well with Eudoxa and the sound is very good for pizzicato and arco playing. They are very easy to play in any positions. I removed the hight tension Spirocore E and A also in favor of Kolstein. With very nice results, powerful as the Spirocore (the only positive aspect of these strings), but low tension and playable in any position. Bowing is also pretty good. So this is a combination that I recommend. Of course I think Eudoxa are certainly better but they are very expensive. Kolstein E and A goes for about 80 $ both, while Eudoxa D is 140$ and G 125$
Of course what is fine on my bass might not work for someone else but I am positively impressed by the Kolstein. Very nice deep and warm sound, very powerful and you can really play in thumb position easily even on the E string.
