I appologize if this thread has been posted and answered before,
I currently have Heliocore Medium Orchestra's on my 3/4 bass, everything sounds fine except for my G string, it sounds very "nasaly" compared to the rest of the strings.. is this a factory error or are all of the Heliocore Medium orchestra's sound that way ?
anyways, i was hoping for a deep rich sounding string(s). I dont mind changing the whole set.
PS: If this is of any importance, I've been playing the bass with brand new strings for about 3-4 months now.. just thought it would be helpful to include
Thanks !

Amplified or not?
Do you like the other ones?

You may want to try a Pirastro Flexocor G.
Not the Original Flexocor, the regular one. (also called Flexocor '92)

Then I experienced what sounds like the problem you're having, ie. 2 or 3 strings sounding 'right' and 1 or 2 sounding too bright or twangy. At the time I had a spare set but one of theose was off as well, luckily not the same as the other set so I got a usable set.
I returned the bad strings to D'Addario and they were quite good about replacing them, but the set they sent me had a bad A string. Same problem, so I've moved on. IMO their quality control has slipped.
If you play a lot of arco I'd try the new Bel Canto strings from Thomastic. Otherwise maybe Velvets of some sort. (I also like the compas 180's for arco, but they're very brittle strings and prone to breakage if you don't install them exactly right) |

Thanks for the good advice. From the reviews that i have read, I think I am going to go with the Bel Canto strings from Thomastik as I mainly play arco.
Thanks all ! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
