Need help with D string!

Hi guys! I have Spiro mittels installed on my db. The pizz sound is great, I love it. The problem is arco. The EAG strings sound ok but the D string is VERY bright and metallic, it is very annoying! Is there something I can do? I dont think its the string, because the pizz sound is wonderful. Any advice?

Bonjour Gérard.
(I'm the guy who gave you three sets of strings to try via Donat...)

I thought you had bought Corellis.

Anyway, Spirocores are well known to not be very arco friendly.
The Spiro D comes with a piece of red plastic tubing.
You can slide it on the string so it rests between it and the bridge.
It's a tone filter.
But don't expect that much difference.

If you want better arco performance, you'd better thinking at getting other strings than Spiros.

Hope this helps.

Salut,
François

Thank you François, I know that the spiros are not so arco friendly, I can live with that, its just my D string that is so more metallic and scratchy than the others! I will try the tube thing you suggest to me and hope it will do. I really love the pizz sound of these strings!

Hello François, I didnt recognize you were Donat's friend. Yes, I bought Corellis and they were great for the other bass I have. I got a new one fully carved and this one need more tension than the Corellis and the Spiros I had fit the bill. Bye and thanks again.
