New Strings!

My remaining Superflexes are unravelling at the bridge (and in the case of my A string on the fingerboard around B) but they are over two years old. I already have an Obligato G and I was thinking of putting a regular Evah Pirazzi for the D string and Spirocore Mittel, Jazzer or Permanent for E and A. I play 50/50 arco/pizz.

Is that a question or a statement?
Let us know about the result!

Nice day,

It was a question but I'm strongly leaning towards Spirocore E and A with Evah Pirazzi D.

The question is which string should I use for E and A if I already have an Obligato G and an Evah Pirazzi D.

Spiro E is always great, and the A is good. Actually any Spiros are great if you give them time to settle in. I like Spiro Weichs as an all around pizz/arco string. But Mittels would be great, too.

I've used both the Regular Evahs and the Weichs.... the Weichs have been much better for my purposes. I like the Weich set's balance a lot.

I don't think Obligatos are in the same league as either one of them. I recorded an album a couple of years ago with Oblis on the bottom, and Olivs on the top. It was kind of schizophrenic... the album sounds good, but I'm aware of the difference in power when I listen to it. I think the same may be true of the Obligato mixed with Evahs. The Evahs just kill the Oblis on my bass. The G obli, in particular, just doesn't get it done for me.

Maybe a nice mix would be Evah Weichs on top, and then Spiros of your choice on the bottom. YMMV.

The Obligatos don't last. I found that the lower strings rolled (progressively worse). It"s kinda like trying to run across a floor covered in marbles. The G just went weak.

I got the Spiro E and A put on and I am happy with the way they sound already, but they still need more hours on them. I now have an Obligato G, Superflexible D, Spiro E and A. The Spiros aren't bad under the bow at all and the tension is pretty even with the rest of the strings. Overall I'm happy! When I replace my D I will most likely get Evah D and G.
