Yup. Order Magnum Gatorline in gauges .085, .100, .130 and .155 or .170 for the E string. Four small spools should cost less than commercial weedwacker strings. Tie a knot in the tailpiece end and string them up.
Gatorline has a Kevlar filament core which adds mass and tension without adding even more bulk to the string.
They won't be real loud and the pitch definition isn't great but they will be much easier to play and you won't have to modify your bridge to bring your string heights down to a manageable level. You will have to widen the nut and bridge slots to fit the strings.

I just threw FMI Weedwacker Pro Strings (<font color=red>NEW</font> Weedwacker PRO Rockabilly Slap Bass Strings 4, 5, or 6 String Sets) on my bass. An old Kay bass, and I love the feel and sound. No longer tearing up my fingers, but am definitely going to need to modify or replace my bridge to get a full sound from the E and A strings. They are so wide, only the corners of the string grooves actually grab and send vibrations through the bass, as opposed to the entire body of the groove, as with the G and D strings)

I've played actual whackers only, not the commercially marketed ones. Quite common here in Hawai'i. They sound... well, they sound like weed whacker strings. Thump thump thump, not much response on the E string, not much definition, not much volume or character. I know people use 'em to get a "gutlike" response, but as a full time gut player... eh, not so much. The commercial ones that Csmith mentions are most likely better.
